I know it's been a while since you've heard from me but it's been a long year for us and I wanted to give you an update on his progress. Lots of ups and downs and numerous hospitalizations. My dad had surgery on Monday to finish up what began last July. He has been in the hospital since April. He's currently in ICU at BMC. Making small improvements each day. Today he was very alert and looking much better. He's a trooper and has pulled through this latest test like the true champion that he is. We're not sure how long he'll be in ICU but he'll probably be in the hospital for quite some time. I will continue to send emails to keep you posted on his progress.
An additional message on 7/19:........
You are very welcome Paul. This has been a very tough and trying year for us. Since my dad's surgery in January, he had suffered so many setbacks resulting in readmissions to the hospital. He has spent about 21 days home since Jan. Since April, he has been in BMC and had a one night stay at Fairview Commons Nursing Home before going back to the hospital with an infection. Since that time, he has been very down as this has been a mentally draining time for him.
They are doing exercises with him now to prepare him for removal of the ventilator. He's making a little progress each day, is stable, and is more alert and staying awake for longer periods of time.
I will keep you updated on his progress and as soon as he's out of ICU, I will surely let you know.
Blessings,
Christine
