The writer of what might be called the essay or “free verse poetry” regarding growing up in Pittsfield is happy that many of us have found her words to be interesting and thought provoking. I know they were for me.
Here is an email message I received from the writer recently:
'...how about asking everyone to submit top ten lists of memories of pittsfield in the 40/50's i bet folks from different parts of the city have different views. i know already that i didn't include the 10 cent saturday morning movies with 3 cartoons, newsreel, short, serial, and feature. my father took me when i was young but when i was old enough he gave me money to get there on the bus with neighbors. he couldn't stand the noise anymore or 100's of kids running back and forth for popcorn. he always did like peace and quiet.'
I think this is a great idea. But, because some of us came from Lanesborough, Hinsdale, Richmond, Hancock, etc., I think expanding the memories to where ever you grew up is worthwhile. I have made an area in the Photo Galleries entitled 'Top Ten Memories of Growing Up in the Berkshires' where we can gather the lists.
If you can convert you writings into a JPG file, you can post it here yourself. Names are welcome, but not mandatory. If you can't convert it, please send it to me and I will do so. Please tell me if you want your name put on it or not. THe list should not be more than one page but if yours if, fine. We'll put it into has much as you want.
