There are some errors in this story -- it wasn't Miss Hall's School until 1898 and the town of Hinsdale wasn't named for William Hinsdale, but for Rev. Theodore Hinsdale, the first minister of the Presb. Church in the town.
Miss Hall was the great-niece of Nancy Hinsdale, bought the school in 1898, changed its name to the present one and expanded it. It was moved to its present location in 1909. In 1923, a fire destroyed the estate. In 1924, the Georgian building was built and occupied.
MHS now (2011) costs about $44,000 a year for boarding students $27,000 for commuting students.
