Tom Holleran entered the US Army in Sept. 1959, completing basic training at Ft, Dix. He then completed a 20 week bandsman course at the US Naval School of Music in Virginia. This picture of my 'Duty Station' with The European US Army Jazz Band was taken at a concert someplace in Germany. When we were at 'home' in Stuttgart we would rehearse from 9 to 11, lunch until 1, rehearse to 4. However, We were constantly on the road for 7 or 8 days at a time via bus or helicopters and playing in Germany, Â Austria, France, Belgium, and Italy.
The Berlin wall went up just before I was getting out and they kept me there for an additional 4 months which counted as 'wartime  service'. I'm glad I could protect America from the Russians with my Sax, Clarinet and flute.
