All Souls' Church in Lakewood 1948. -----In the mid-1940s, Pittsfield had a high population of residents of Italian descent. Mount Carmel Church, the 'Italian' church on Fenn Street became over-crowded and since many Italian-Americans lived in the Lakewood area, Â a mission church of Mount Carmel was built there. A military Quonset hut was refurbished as a church and named 'All Souls' Chapel'. It was located on Pembroke Avenue near the corner of Allessio Street in Lakewood. Readings and homilies were in English and Italian at all Sunday masses. The Reverend Camillo L. Santini, C.P.S, was the Rector of All Souls' from Sept. 1948 until August 1950. He was replaced by The Reverend Carlo J. Bevilacqua, C.P.S. 'The chapel and its activities were momentous in my young life.'
