Arrowhead, located on Holmes Road near the Lenox border, shown above in the 1920s, was the Pittsfield home of author Herman Melville from 1850 to 1862, and where he wrote his most famous novel, 'Moby Dick.' It was built in 1790 by David Bush, Jr. as an inn on the stagecoach road between Hartford, Conn. and Bennington, Vt.
