1912 or so  ---'The New American Hotel - A Splendid Hostelry  --- This conspicuous hotel at the corner of North street and Columbus avenue, was opened in 1899, the second hotel of that name to occupy the site. Originally a four story building it was remodeled in 1911 into a five story building with added comforts for a constantly growing patronage. It is in the  very business center of the city. Its construction is of brick with Indiana limestone trimmings. The hotel has its own lighting and heating plants and a complete equipment. Its main dining room done in white pine with panneled wainscot and columns of highly colored marble is one of the favorite dining rooms in the county. The hotel has room and accommodations for 300 guests and is one of the well known automobile tourist rendezvous of its section. The proprietors of the hotel are Plumb and Clark.'
