This impressive stone portal, shown above in 1911, is the gateway to Pittsfield Cemetery from Wahconah Street. Designed by J. P. Rinn of Boston and built of Great Barrington bluestone, it was erected in 1884 as a bequest from Thomas Allen, who died in 1882, with a set of bronze gates given by his widow, for a total cost then of $7,000.
