Frank Condron entered the US Army shortly after graduation and served 3 years. His last assignment was at Fort Hood, near Waco, Texas. Here are his words:

Two pictures.  The one in Army dress uniform was taken in Washington, D.C. while I was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia with the Army Engineers.  After basic training in Fr. Gordon, Georgia I was sent to the Army Engineers at Ft. Belvoir where I was classified as a surveyor's rodman.  We surveyed and constructed a road that still exists in Accotink, Virginia.
Thecolor photograph was taken in Korea where I spent my second year of duty with the Quartermaster Corps.  I sent it because it tells a story.  It is the Quartermaster Corps that contains Graves Registration.  This is the outfit that collects the deceased soldiers and reverently escorts them home.  Graves Registration has a need for a surveying crew because they are the troops who lay out the beautiful cemeteries.
Before leaving Korea we soldiers were asked to which Army post we preferred to be assigned when we returned to the States.  This was before I understood how the world works, so I listed Ft. Meyers, Massachusetts.  That is how I got to be assigned to Ft. Hood, Texas.  But life has a way of working out.  I met the love of my life and have become a naturalized Texan with nine Texan descendants.  Frank
